Synesthesia is a superpower | Jessica Frey | TEDxMarshallU

What do you think purple smells like? Or what color is the number 3? This talk takes a deep dive into synesthesia, a condition in which certain senses are entangled, creating sensations such as hearing color or smelling sounds. Dr. Jessica Frey, a neurologist diagnosed with the condition, walks the audience through her experience with synesthesia as well as the ways in which understanding synesthesia could benefit all of us by allowing us to look at the world in new and unique ways with the power of empathy. Jessica Frey, M.D. is a neurologist, assistant professor of neurology and movement disorders specialist working at the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She is the movement disorder fellowship program director and specializes in Deep Brain Stimulation procedures for patients with Parkinson’s disease and tremor. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
