Designing in allyship with nature | Marte Mei van Haaster | TEDxEindhoven
"How can we design with nature as a collaborator rather than a commodity?
This question challenges us to rethink our relationship with the natural world. For too long, we've treated nature as a resource to exploit, leading to ecological harm and a disconnection from the land. The Land-Allyship approach offers a new perspective: one that sees humans as allies of the earth, working with nature rather than against it." Marte Mei is an innovative thinker and designer who challenges traditional human-nature dynamics in her TEDx talk. She invites the audience to reimagine humanity’s role as an ally of nature, rather than a force of destruction. Through her design approach, Marte explores how positive interaction and collaboration with animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria can lead to a more regenerative future. She delves into the historical roots of nature maintenance strategies and argues that they have disconnected us from the natural world. Marte concludes by envisioning a new relationship with nature—one where humans become active participants and co-creators in the ecosystems around them.
