At just 16, Mohammed Idris Malagi dreamed of becoming a broadcaster. Known to his family as “Captain News,” he would play with imaginary microphones, inventing news bulletins and dreaming of speaking to the world without being seen. But when he expressed this passion to his father’s friend—a powerful minister at the time—he was told to "go get a degree first." That moment felt like a dream crushed.Years later, not only did he rise above that early disappointment, he became Nigeria’s Minister of Information.In this inspiring TEDxNTICAbujaYouth talk, Malagi shares his personal story of perseverance, passion, and purpose—from heartbreak to high office. He also reflects on the urgent need for media and information literacy in an age of fake news and misinformation. Mohammed Idris popularly known as Malagi (born 2 May 1966) is a Nigerian publisher, philanthropist, entrepreneur, public relations professional and politician who is the minister of Information and National Orientation of Nigeria. He was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023. He is the founder/chairman and publisher of Blueprint. He is also the chairman of Abuja based Kings Broadcasting Limited, owners of WE 106.5 FM Abuja, Nigeria. He was the general secretary of Newspaper Proprietors' Association of Nigeria. Additionally, he held the position of Director of Strategic Communications for the All Progressives Congress Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
