Edson Oliveira explora os desafios médicos de viver fora da Terra: os efeitos da ausência de gravidade, o risco da radiação em missões a Marte, e os limites do corpo humano em ambientes extremos. Com exemplos clínicos reais, avanços tecnológicos e reflexões sobre o futuro da exploração espacial, mostra-nos que o verdadeiro desafio já não é apenas técnico — é humano. Edson Oliveira formou-se na Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa em 2007.
Fundador e Gestor de Projetos do Centro de Estudos de Medicina Aeroespacial, integrou a equipa que implementou em Portugal a primeira unidade curricular de Medicina Aeroespacial na Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa, em funcionamento desde 2020, numa parceria com a Academia da Força Aérea Portuguesa. Está a desenvolver um projeto de doutoramento relacionado com o SANS (Síndrome Neuro-Ocular Associado a Voos Espaciais), com foco nos efeitos da microgravidade na pressão intracraniana.Atualmente, é membro nomeado do Conselho Médico da Agência Espacial Europeia e Líder da Equipa do Comité de Voos Espaciais Comerciais da Aerospace Medical Association. É também professor convidado na International Space University, membro do Space & Extreme Environment Research Center da Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (Brasil) e membro ativo da Space Surgery Association. He values his academics and his extra-curricular, which is why he practices badminton and cricket. His favorite subject areas include math, science, and history.
