In this compelling talk, Mr. Sandeep Karnik (IPS), Commissioner of Police, Nashik, Maharashtra shares his experiences and experiments in modern policing. Through real-life stories and strategic innovations, he unveils how law enforcement can resonate with the community, ensuring justice with empathy and effectiveness. Discover how the philosophy of “Shaasak Nahi Sewak” is shaping a new era of policing that prioritizes service over authority. A distinguished officer, currently serving as the Commissioner of Police, Nashik City, he has dedicated his career to transforming policing through technology and citizen-centric initiatives. With a B.E. in Electronics, an MBA in Marketing, and a Master's in Police Management, he cleared the UPSC exam in 2004, joining the Indian Police Service. He has held key positions, including Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune City, and Additional Commissioner of Police, Mumbai City. Over the past year, he has redefined proactive policing in Nashik, implementing cyber patrolling, AI-driven initiatives, an all-woman squad for women's safety, and anti-drug and anti-street nuisance drives. His efforts earned him the Times Sanman Award for Police-Citizen Connect initiatives, presented by the Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis. He enjoys learning and is always looking for opportunities to meet new people. He is a budding photographer, as well as being an avid reader and also working on paper-craft, namely quilling. He values his academics and his extra-curricular, which is why he practices badminton and cricket. His favorite subject areas include math, science, and history.
