Words hold power. Language has power in shaping feminist discourse. Rhetoric influences gender equality, activism, and social change. By being aware of our word choices, we can use strategic language to challenge patriarchal norms and bring power to women. Nancy Javkhlan is a senior at Granada Hills Charter High School. She is a leader in her school community, holding positions as the varsity debate and track & field captain. She has had a passion for speech and debate for over 7 years. She was recognized as the International Public Speaking Competition Champion by the English Speaking Union representing Mongolia. She is committed to creating change for women through speech. Staying motivated and disciplined in the face of demanding tasks isn't easy. Motivation is inconsistent, and discipline causes burnout. However, by being aware of these challenges, we can find balance in both discipline and motivation to move towards success. Sophie is a junior in highschool with a passion for helping others. She loves helping others reach their goals and stay motivated through her leadership positions in a variety of organizations and clubs.
