- 9:01The implications of redefining your self worth | Sofía Nava Herrera | TEDxYouth@JFKQROBefore I can expect others to have a certain perception of me I must first learn to understand the perception I have of myself. As individuals we tend to focus on the expectations of others on ourselves but we often forget that our self acceptance and well-being also comes from within. The focus that I want this TED talk to have is on the value we assign to ourselves as people and how we often pressure ourselves and demerit ourselves based on specific boxes that we try to put ourselves into to measure our own success. Personally, when I have found a discipline or an area that I succeed at I set myself to those highest standards and when I struggle or fall short of these unrealistic expectations I belittle my person. Especially, in moments when people ask me about what defines me as a person or when looking into universities and career paths I unknowingly decide whether I am or not good enough. In particular, I am aiming towards exploring what true personal value is defined by and how changing this perspective of oneself can help to understand the multi-faceted mentality, and complexity of an individual. My objective for this TEDx talk is to inspire self insightfulness in myself and others in the way we assign value to ourselves and how this affects our self-acceptance and well-being in our entire lives. - 10:23Defying the limitations of entrepreneurship | Daniela Tenorio Mc Dowell | TEDxYouth@JFKQROIt is common for young people, including myself, to feel limited by our age. To feel like things are not possible because we are too young. Well, I come to contradict all of those outrageous beliefs. I have always been interested in selling things no matter how or what. Managing small businesses throughout the years has taught me that age is just a number, instead of limiting you it would give you a head start. It can be intimidating to start your own business or imagine yourself as a successful entrepreneur because it is not common and it is a common misconception that when you are young you are irresponsible, immature, and naive. Well, good news you can be a business owner at any age it just requires dedication and believing in yourself. I have already gone through all the stages of doubt and fear but I have managed a business since I was in freshman year of high school. It has come with difficult situations that I have needed to overcome and have developed many new skills. Managing a business not only rewards you economically but also with experience. Going through complicated situations and experiencing things is the best way to learn and evolve. All of these points will be connected to my personal experience which justifies how possible it is for people my age to be successful in managing a business. Also I will address how listening to the world's needs and your interest equals success. For example, considering the environmental current needs of the world can help develop a great business idea combined with something you are interested in. Nowadays, everyone wants to be successful and earn money but it is key that your purpose and goals are well determined so you don't get lost on the way. I am Daniela Tenorio, a 12th grade student. - 12:45How Procrastination Impacts Mental Well-Being | Valentina Guerra Lorenzo | TEDxYouth@JFKQROIn this year's talk I will talk about time. In Particular, I will explore how now-a-days we are awfully used to wasting time in exchange for things such as social media. We do these things to waste time and end up losing the opportunity to achieve our greatest dreams. I want to remind this generation how time is the most valuable gift life has given us, and how without it life is meaningless; so we should all live in the moment instead of trapping ourselves in the loopholes of a screen. In this speech I will be delighted to share one of my experiences with time: during quarantine I struggled with anxiety, which made it really hard for me to live in the moment. I developed a habit of diving into the web all day long, which to a point made me addicted to being on social media. I fought against this for a long period of time, while trying to make up for those years I could have lived in the moment. That was the moment when I realized I was not alone; every single day you see people glued to the screen and getting addicted to the content inside the media. This is the change I want to make in the world, I want to remind people of how easy it is to waste time, but also to live fully within the time that we have to live. We can choose what to do with hours some of us would normally waste and do something productive, but that is in our hands to make the decision. My name is Valentina Guerra, and I am one of the Highschool Students who has had the honor of being elected for this year's TEDx program.
