It’s not too late to save the future | Andrew Jones | TEDxBoston
Climate change is no longer a distant threat—its impacts are already hitting home. The speaker shares his personal experience with Hurricane Helene, including the heartbreaking loss of a neighbor. But here’s the good news: we have the tools to avoid the worst outcomes. What if we could foresee the next climate disaster before it strikes? While it's not a crystal ball, the En-ROADS simulator can preview the impact of potential interventions and, importantly, the path if we do not act. How might that shape our response? In this talk, discover how a global simulation is helping us chart a path to a safer, more sustainable future. The science is clear, and the solutions are within reach. This tool empowers users to engage with the available solutions and evaluate which targeted actions can slash global emissions, reduce extreme weather, and save lives. Andrew Jones is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Climate Interactive and a Research Affiliate at MIT Sloan. He is an expert on international climate and energy policy, a system dynamics modeler, a speaker, and a creator of policy simulations. He led the teams at Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan that developed En-ROADS and C-ROADS, two climate simulators used widely to engage global decision-makers. His climate policy work has appeared in media outlets such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. He co-accepted the ASysT Applied Systems Thinking Prize and the System Dynamics Society’s Applications Award as well as Dartmouth College’s Ray W. Smith Award for the most significant contribution to the status of the college. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
