Rethinking the bit: Quantum principles inside modern chips | Tomáš Jungwirth | TEDxPrague

What if the tiniest building block of your computer—the bit—was about to change? What will be the principle behind the chips of the future in the automotive industry, AI applications, robotics, and more powerful computers? To give us a glimpse into a possible revolution in information technology, we hear from Tomáš Jungwirth, head of the Spintronics and Nanoelectronics Department at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and a professor at the University of Nottingham in the UK. In addition to being a co-author of dozens of patents, he and his team confirmed the existence of the spin Hall effect, which has the potential for use in modern electronics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
