Responsible Manufacturing for a Sustainable Future | Prabodha Acharya | TEDxIRMA

The heavy manufacturing sector, is key to economic growth but also poses environmental and social challenges. Emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and ethics, the sector must adopt clean energy, circular economy principles, and advanced technologies like AI and IoT to reduce its carbon footprint. Aligning with India’s 2070 carbon neutrality goal and the SDGs—especially SDG 8, 12, and 13—responsible manufacturing is vital for a thriving future. It's time to move beyond profit and embrace innovation, responsibility, and sustainable transformation. Dr. Prabodha Acharya is the Chief Sustainability Officer at JSW Group, leading the company’s ESG and sustainability strategy in collaboration with CEOs and senior executives. With expertise in corporate ESG management, climate action, sustainable finance, and policy advocacy, Dr. Acharya has played a pivotal role in driving sustainability initiatives at national and international levels. Recognized as one of the most impactful sustainability leaders and the Best Sustainability Officer (SEEM National Sustainability Awards 2023), he also contributes to industry bodies such as WBCSD, Worldsteel, WMBC, Indian Steel Association, CII, FICCI, and ASSOCHAM. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he holds a BE in Civil Engineering and an MTech in Environmental Engineering, alongside strategic leadership training from Brown University.
