A story of messy beautiful aliveness | Julia Cores | TEDxTHU
What is the difference between being alive and feeling alive? Julia Cores, a world traveler and entrepreneur, explores the messy and beautiful journey of life. Having traveled to 50+ countries and lived in six of them across four continents by the age of 25, Julia has encountered many life’s twists, from overcoming a childhood injury to experiencing dangers, business failures, and loss. She challenges the notion of a “happy ever after,” realizing that life isn’t about a perfect resolution, but about embracing every moment — both painful and joyful. From dropping out of a prestigious college to navigating the complexities of love life and career, Julia has turned her struggles into self-discovery, growth, entrepreneurship, and serving others. Through her journey, she has learned that pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. Join her as she shares how embracing aliveness — feeling life deeply and navigating life’s challenges with curiosity — truly makes life meaningful. - 8:58How to prevent the robot apocalypse | Oluwami (Wami) Dosunmu-Ogunbi | TEDxDetroitImagine a world where robots, once created to serve humanity, have turned against us—not out of malice, but because of the biases we unknowingly built into them. It sounds like science fiction, but the reality is that we are already on the path to such a world. How do we change course? The answer is surprisingly simple. "Oluwami ""Wami"" Dosunmu-Ogunbi, PhD, is a trailblazer as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Robotics from the University of Michigan. Her research focus is in robot control and engineering education.Navigating academia as a person at the intersection of numerous identities, Wami faced many challenges, including being expelled from her first PhD program. However, with the unwavering support of mentors, she overcame systemic barriers and made history. Wami is committed to paving the way for future generations, demonstrating that while she may be the first, she certainly won't be the last!
