Saudi Organ Center saves 8 lives through coordinated donor recoveries in 12 hours
Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT) successfully coordinated the recovery of organs from four brain-dead donors within 12 hours, resulting in life-saving transplants for eight patients suffering from organ failure.
The coordinated efforts led to two heart transplants, including one for a child, ending their struggles with heart failure. Two liver transplants were performed for patients with liver failure, and four kidney transplants were carried out, freeing patients from dialysis dependency.
The operations involved collaboration between the Saudi German Hospital in Madinah, King Saud Medical City, and Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital’s Sahafa branch in Riyadh, as well as Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Abu Dhabi, under the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Organ Exchange Program.
SCOT Director General Dr. Talal Algoufi confirmed that organ allocation was carried out ethically and according to medical priority. He praised the coordination among all participating entities.
