PARIS — Saudi Arabia, represented by its permanent delegation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is participating in the 221st session of the UNESCO Executive Board, which began its opening sessions at the organization’s headquarters in Paris on Monday.
The Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, along with several relevant national entities, are also taking part in the session, which will continue until April 17.
The Kingdom's delegation is led by Saudi Arabian Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Dr. Abdulelah Al-Tokhais, who delivered the Kingdom's address in the presence of Executive Board member states, the chairperson of the board, the president of the General Conference, and the director general of UNESCO.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Tokhais highlighted the long standing relationship between the Kingdom and UNESCO, noting that the Kingdom was among the first countries to join the UN Charter in 1945.
He praised the ongoing cooperation between the Kingdom and the organization, particularly through the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, which led to Saudi Arabia hosting the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 6) under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
