MoH stresses necessity of taking meningitis vaccine before performing Umrah during Ramadan
Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Health (MoH) stressed the necessity of receiving the meningitis vaccine for those wishing to perform Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan. This comes within the framework of efforts aimed at enhancing preventive health and reducing the spread of infectious diseases.
The ministry stressed the importance of obtaining the vaccine at least ten days before traveling to perform Umrah so as to ensure achieving the required immunity. It noted that people, who received the vaccine during the past five years, do not need to be revaccinated, given the continued effectiveness of the vaccine throughout this period.
According to the ministry, meningitis is transmitted through respiratory droplets resulting from coughing or sneezing, which requires taking the necessary preventive measures. It called for booking an appointment through the Sehhaty application to receive the vaccine in adult vaccination clinics.
The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthy experience while performing Umrah. This directive comes within the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Health to protect the health of pilgrims and enhance health awareness, which contributes to developing an integrated health system that raises the quality of life and improves the level of the provided health services.
