Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman appointed chairman of KAUST Board of Trustees

JEDDAH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman issued a Royal order, based on a proposal by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, appointing Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
This step affirms KAUST's strategic role in strengthening the research, development, and innovation ecosystem, particularly in areas vital to Saudi Arabia's future, such as energy, sustainability, and technological advancement.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman has extensive experience in the energy and sustainability sector, having played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing policies that support the transition to clean energy and foster innovation in this field.
This appointment will be an important step in advancing KAUST's Accelerated Impact strategy, which aims to accelerate scientific research and link its outcomes to industrial and technical applications, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. It also highlights Saudi Arabia's research efforts to address environmental and climate challenges, promote the use of renewable energy, and achieve net-zero carbon neutrality through the university's research.
“We are honored to have Prince Abdulaziz as Chairman of the KAUST Board of Trustees," KAUST President Professor Edward Byrne said following the royal decree.
"This appointment represents a significant milestone in the university’s journey. His vision and deep expertise in energy and sustainability will accelerate KAUST’s impact and enhance its role in linking scientific research with economic and technological development. We look forward to achieving further accomplishments, expanding our strategic partnerships, and supporting the next generation of scientists and innovators," Byrne said.
