— Passengers in Saudi Arabia are entitled to a free ride if a taxi driver fails to activate the fare meter, according to the Transport General Authority (TGA).The TGA emphasized that all taxi drivers must turn on the meter at the start of each trip to ensure transparent and fair pricing. If a driver does not comply, passengers have the right to complete their journey without paying.
The initiative aims to enhance service standards and protect passengers from overcharging. It is part of broader efforts to regulate the transportation sector and improve the experience for residents, visitors, and pilgrims.
Authorities have encouraged passengers to report any violations through official channels. The Pilgrims Awareness Center also plays a role in informing visitors, particularly those traveling to the holy cities, about their rights when using taxis.
