ZATCA thwarts attempt to smuggle 17.6 kg of methamphetamine
Saudi Gazette reportRIYADH —
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 17.6 kilograms of methamphetamine (locally known as “shabu”) through the Empty Quarter border crossing. In a statement, ZATCA said that during a routine inspection of an incoming truck, inspectors discovered the narcotic substance hidden inside the fuel tank of a vehicle being transported on the truck.
Following the seizure, ZATCA immediately coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) to ensure the arrest of the intended recipients inside the Kingdom. Authorities confirmed the apprehension of two individuals linked to the smuggling operation.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports to protect society from the dangers of drug trafficking, working in close cooperation with the GDNC.
ZATCA urged all citizens and residents to contribute to the fight against smuggling to protect both society and the national economy. It encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities through its dedicated security hotline (1910), via email at 1910@zatca.gov.sa, or through the international number (+9661910). All reports are handled with complete confidentiality, and informants are eligible for financial rewards if the information proves accurate.
