How Uncomfortable Conversations Empower Youth Advocacy | Shailen Fofaria | TEDxYouth@ChavisWay

Shailen grew up never talking about periods because, like most boys, he was never taught. However, once he learned about the stigma and inequities surrounding menstrual health, he realized the power of conversation. In this talk, Shailen shares how these uncomfortable conversations can spark youth advocacy, challenge taboos, and create real change—one word at a time. Shailen Fofaria, a junior at Enloe High School, participates in numerous academic and extracurricular activities. Shailen is Junior Class President, President of Enloe’s Academy of Creative Design, and runs varsity Cross Country. His passion is service, which he fosters through work with numerous nonprofits and the startup he co-founded. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
