Otuz yaşlarındayken bir öykü kitabımdaki bir kahramanın ağzından böyle yazmıştım. Bu sözüm çok sevildi ve o gündür bu gündür özellikle öğretmenler gününde pankartlarda, konuşmalarda kullanılıyor ve birçok gence ışık saçıyor.
Çünkü bu sözün anlamı aslında bir altın anahtar gibidir ve bizi yepyeni ve güzel yollara çıkartacak birçok kilidi açar. Ve yine çünkü henüz kendi yetenek ve tutkularımızı henüz tanımayacak kadar gençken henüz ailemizin ve toplumun iyi niyetle de olsa bize nasıl yaşamamız, gelecekte ne iş yapacağımız, nasıl biriyle hayatımızı geçireceğimiz ve nelere inanıp neleri ve kimleri değerli veya değersiz bulacağımız konusunda rehberlik, yönderlik yaptıkları sırada karşımıza çıkan olağanüstü bir öğretmen bize aslında nelere yetenekli olduğumuzu, belki de bize empoze edildiğinin tam aksine konuları ve işleri çok severek ve hiç sıkılmadan yapabileceğimizi gösteriverir. İşte hayatımızın akışını belki geleceğimizi değiştirecek çok önemli “O An”lar aslında birer mucizedir.
Bizi, belki de bilinç dışımıza ittiğimiz kendimize ilişkin yetenek, bilgi veya cesaret konularında uyandıran burada bahsi geçen “öğretmen” konusunu da biraz açmak isterim. Çünkü bu öğretmenin illa okulda karşımıza çıkması gerekmez. Yolumuza ışık tutacak O yönder, belki aile içinde bir ağabey veya abladır belki bir arkadaşımızın annesi veya babasıdır belki de yaşayan veya çoktan ölmüş bir yazarın kitabındaki bir cümle veya bir karakterin hayatı hatta dinlediğiniz bir şarkının söz yazarı, izlediğiniz bir filmin veya dizinin yönetmeni veya senaristidir. Ve bize çok ihtiyacımız olan 'O AN' da gereken şeyi fısıldar. İşte onu duymak ve bu bilgiyi kuşlanmak da bize düşer. Yazar, çevre bilimci, romancı, hikayeci, gezi yazarı, feminist, hayvan ve çevre hakları savunucusu Buket UZUNER, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, (Norveç) Bergen Üniversitesi, (ABD) Michigan Üniversitesinde biyoloji ve çevrebilim eğitimi aldı. (Finlandiya) Tampere Teknik Üniversitesi ve ODTÜ'de araştırmacı olarak çalıştı, eğitim verdi.1996 yılında (ABD) Lowa Üniversitesinin "Onur Üyesi" oldu, 2004 yılında da ODTÜ Senatosu tarafından takdir belgesiyle onurlandırıldı. 2016 yılında Ankara Üniversitesi ve Ankara Öykü Günleri Derneğince verilen "Öykü Onur Ödülü"nü aldı.Buket UZUNER, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin 75. kuruluş yılında Türkiye üniversiteleri, basını, meslek kuruluşları ve 81 ilin valiliklerinden oluşturulan jürinin oylarıyla 'Cumhuriyetin 75 İz Bırakan Kadını'ndan biri olarak seçildi.Çevre sorunlarını ele aldığı ve Türk mitolojisinden fantastik ögeler kullandığı, ekoeleştirel/iklim kurgu “tabiat dörtlemesi” romanları "Su""Toprak", "Hava" ve "Ateş" 2023'te tamamlandı.
