Shonna Tillman is a dedicated academic and public policy expert with a strong background in rural government, community and economic development, and women's representation in political positions. She holds a PhD in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University; Shonna's research focuses on the intersection of race, gender, and politics, particularly the motivations and challenges faced by Black women in political leadership roles. Through the story of the endangered sea turtle—locally known as Fakrouna—Hamed Mallat shares how a blend of traditional knowledge, scientific innovation, and community collaboration is giving new hope to the Mediterranean Sea. Hamed Mallat, a marine biologist focused on sea turtle conservation and marine biodiversity in Tunisia. He holds a life sciences degree from Monastir and a master’s from Sfax and is pursuing a PhD at the University of Barcelona on sea turtle ecology. He has led conservation efforts in marine protected areas like the Kuriat and Kerkennah Islands, creating Tunisia’s first floating sea turtle rehabilitation station and collaborating with fishermen to reduce bycatch. Hamed is also an advocate for environmental education, citizen science, and training NGOs in sea turtle conservation. He serves as a consultant for the Jordan Society for the Conservation of Turtles and Social Media Coordinator for the International Sea Turtle Society.
