The Power of the Picture Book: Its Importance to Young Readers | Neil Gamos | TEDxMHPNHS Youth

In his talk, he will discuss the significant war that teachers face in teaching learners to read. In order to pass on the fascination of reading at the earliest time, the picture book should be the shield and spear of the teachers in this warfare. Using a picture book, it can help preschool and kindergarten learners to be fascinated by the beauty and joy of reading rather than forcing them to read. The picture book will be the window of hope to the readers to get rid of their young minds that reading is a punishment but a wonderful way to travel the worlds contained in the children's story. Sgt. Neil Omar Gamos is a Master Teacher and a reservist in the Philippine Air Force. He received the Illustrators’ Prize in 2019 and the Reader’s Choice Award in 2024 for Batang 90s. In the same year, he was also awarded the Gawad Teodora Alonso for Storybook for Young Readers and recognized as Best Storyteller. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
