Aging Sucks...Or Does It? | Kat Miller | TEDxAjijic
We've been told that aging sucks. But does it? Or have we just been given the wrong lens to look at it through. The lens of ageism. What is ageism? The fear and prejudice against aging and older people that blocks us from the inner freedom that aging can bring. Ageism has us feeling shamed for just getting older. When you were a child did people tell you that becoming an adult would suck? No. So why do people say that about aging? Let me ask you:
What if you'd never heard anything negative about aging, or weren't afraid to die? How might you treat yourself differently? How might you live differently? This talk will challenge your thinking about aging, through a frame of Aging Freely...breaking free from ageist beliefs so we can finally have the relationship with ourselves that aging wants to bring. The one we've longed for. The tender self love and acceptance that while we may be slowing down, we're expanding in ways we never even thought possible. What's possible? This talk will take you there. Kat Miller, MA, is passionate about promoting authentic aging. Dedicated to dismantling ageist narratives, she empowers individuals to embrace the inherent beauty of growing older. As the founder of Age Freely, she offers counseling, event speaking, and podcast guesting. Kat inspires us to cultivate fresh approaches to aging and dying that prioritize joy and inner freedom while acknowledging the true losses of aging.
