Music starts to hold value when conversations come alive between individuals as they use this art to convey emotions, perceive feelings, and empathize with one another. Thus, as we enter an era reliant on the convenience provided to us by developing technology, this shift calls for a deeper appreciation for human-composed music and attention to preserving human creativity. Delve into a conversation with Cedric Purwanto, a senior at Waseda University School of Advanced Science and Engineering and a member of the Waseda Symphonic Orchestra, and with Edward Elgar, a key composer of late 19th-century romanticism, as they explore the importance of human-written music in a society increasingly populated by AI-driven creativity. Music is one of the most abstract yet universal languages when it comes to expressing emotions. With generative AI taking the stage in all areas, including art, concerned science student and cellist at the Waseda Symphonic Orchestra, Cedric Purwanto sets the chairs for a roundtable discussion about the essence of music and how far AI can go in terms of the creation of music.
