Positive Thinking | Xiaohe He | TEDxNACIS Shanghai Youth
Lotus from 6 Hazel explores how positive thinking transforms setbacks into growth, citing scientific studies linking optimism to faster recovery, lower stress, and greater success. She illustrates this with J.K. Rowling’s perseverance through rejection and Marcus Aurelius’ Stoic philosophy on controlling one’s mindset, alongside her own journey from self-doubt to the TEDx stage by asking “How can I try?” Her actionable steps—reframing thoughts, focusing on controllables, practicing gratitude, and curating a positive environment—reveal that happiness hinges not on circumstances, but on the quality of our thoughts. I’m Lotus from Class Hazel, Grade 6, and I’m 12 years old. I have a wide range of interests, like football and skiing, which let me experience the world in different ways and help me unwind after school. If you ask me about my favorite subject? Definitely science—especially physics! Exploring the microscopic world feels absolutely incredible. I’m also passionate about reading physics books, along with detective novels and fiction for fun. As an open-minded explorer at heart, I can’t wait to meet you at TEDx! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
