The Stranger Space: A Year of Growth, Community and Courage | Genevieve Ong | TEDxYouth@ACJC
Ms Genevieve Ong speaks about how she found the courage to build a “Stranger Space”, an ever evolving third place where people shape it as much as it shapes them. She talks about finding so much respite and rejuvenation in this third place, that she decided to build one funded by the community. Moments of serendipity were commonplace in this “Stranger Space” that welcomes everyone. Furthermore, she provides a refreshing perspective on how routines are not about doing the same thing over and over everyday for the rest of life. Genevieve is a human with 2 dreams.
The first, is to “play” for the “rest” of her life.
The second, is to make for a better soul for Singapore, through the build of The Stranger Space.
She was part of the village at Forest School Singapore (FSS) until The Good Death of Forest School Singapore in November 2024. She now extends her practice and learning at Stranger Conversations, buying time and making space to try on all versions of her adult self, the way she held space for children at FSS. It’s taking a village of strangers to raise this regenerated adult! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 5:47The Myth of Post-Feminism | Julia Parry | TEDxHolyTrinitySchoolDespite progress, gender inequality persists in various forms, including the gender pay gap and barriers to reproductive rights. In this talk, challenge the myth that feminism is outdated, highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by women and marginalized communities. Hello everyone! I’m Julia, and I’m thrilled to be speaking at the TEDEd Empowerment event. As someone passionate about gender equality and social justice, I’ll address a prevalent misconception today: the belief that feminism is no longer relevant. Despite significant progress, pervasive inequalities and injustices persist for women in various spheres of life. In my talk, I aim to debunk this misconception by shedding light on women's ongoing struggles. I hope you enjoy it! - 9:57The Obstacle = The Solution | Kelly Zhao | TEDxHolyTrinitySchoolIn this thought-provoking talk, explore how obstacles in life are not just barriers but opportunities for growth. With a compelling message of resilience, discipline, and self-reflection, this talk challenges us to stop running from our problems and instead use them as fuel for personal transformation. Hi everyone! I’m Kelly and I am one of the speakers for the TEDEd Empowerment event. I am currently in grade 11, and I’ve grown to love art, music, film, and wellness. As my second talk with the HTS TEDEd club, I want to talk about how to turn your problems into stepping stones toward your goals. Everyone is faced with struggles in their everyday lives, so it’s important we let these struggles empower us rather than tear us down. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the April event!
