Soil and MicroAlgae: Must for a Sustainable Future | Debabrata Sarkar | TEDxVJIT

The speaker highlights the importance of soil and microalgae in protecting our planet. He explains that soil is a living system, home to microorganisms that play crucial roles, like producing natural antibiotics. He further continues that we are losing topsoil at an alarming rate, about three to four football fields every day. By the next decade, we could lose two-thirds of our soil, which would devastate food production and the environment. He also mentions microalgae, a tiny organism that produces half of the world’s oxygen and absorbs CO2. When combined with soil, microalgae improves its fertility, water retention, and resilience. He encourages supporting sustainable farming, raising awareness about soil health, and investing in research. In conclusion, he states that "there is no planet B so stop and think", so we must act now to protect our soil and secure the future. Mr. Debabrata Sarkar, an accomplished C-level executive, boasts over 26 years of experience in the International Agriculture sector. He is an IIM Kolkata alumnus, he has held leadership roles at Monsanto, Chemtura, and Syngenta. Currently, he serves as CMD of MicroAlgae Solutions India Pvt Ltd, Director of AGMA Energy, and Vice President - APAC for AE Biologicals.
