The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdfAsking "How would it feel to be free?" Kiana Del highlights the power of using your voice as a tool for liberation and healing. Kiana shares her personal journey of using the practice of music-making to break free from societal constraints, especially as a Black woman navigating a world of barriers. Combining performance and audience participation with an exploration of somatic healing, Kiana emphasizes the connection between mind and body, using breath control and vocal techniques to regulate emotions and connect with yourself and others. Drawing from African ancestral traditions, she invites the audience to embrace their own voice for self-expression, healing, and advocacy. Kiana Del (she/they) is a vocalist, radio host, and educator hailing from the valleys of Carrollton, KY. She uses music to tell the story of our complex humanity and to foster a safe space for others to create freely without the barrier of judgment. She is the music education manager and afternoon host on 90.5 WUOL at Louisville Public Media by day and can be found crooning jazz tunes in smoky lounges by night. Kiana strives to continue weaving the importance of community and connection into her music-making and is passionate about helping the next generation of musicians find their voices. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
