What I Learned from the Sudden Loss of a Loved One | Jooah (Julia) Lee | TEDxGunnHighSchool

How do we make the most of the time we have, especially when life reminds us of its fragile nature? In this heartfelt and reflective talk, Julia shares the lessons she learned in the wake of suddenly losing her older brother John, who was just starting college, to an unexpected illness. Through personal stories of grief, gratitude, and growth, Julia delves into what it truly means to live intentionally, why it matters, and how we can bring it into our daily lives. Her talk serves as a powerful wake-up call to embrace the ordinary moments we often overlook and to nurture the connections that make life meaningful. Jooah (Julia) Lee is a senior at Gunn High School actively involved in wellness and mental health advocacy. She founded Joy Dance Club to promote joy and stress relief through dance. She also established the Newcomer Buddy Program to support students transitioning mid-year and foster a sense of belonging, drawing from her own experiences with frequent transitions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
