Creative Companion or Competitor? AI’s Impact on Art & Media | Alexander Bransby-Zachary | TEDxUConn
What is Generative AI, and how is it already being used to create art? How powerful will this technology be, and how much will it change how art is created? This talk reflects on the decisions we are making now about generative AI, with a central focus on artificial intelligence’s effect on art and education. With proper regulation, the speaker proposes that artists can flourish and stay in tune with themselves without shying away from these incredible new tools, and hopes to empower artists to use this technology ethically and effectively. Alexander Bransby-Zachary is a Senior at the University of Connecticut, Stamford Campus. He is a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Fine Arts, pursuing a degree in Digital Media and Design while also working full-time as the Membership Coordinator at The J Fitness in Bridgeport, CT. He is an immigrant and moved to the United States when he was six years old. His lifelong goal is to educate and inspire people. He pursued live-streaming from 2020 to 2023 and achieved partnership on Twitch. During the second half of 2023, he researched the effect that generative AI has on the classroom and had the honour of presenting his findings to the Dean of UConn Stamford. He was the host of the incredibly successful DMCT Summit event in September of 2024, and completed a study abroad in Seoul, South Korea in the summer of 2024. Vincent’s here to remind us why effort, not talent alone, is what truly powers success. Vincent is 12 years old and from Myanmar. It is his first year at Regent’s International School. As this is his first time transferring to a new school, he found it a bit challenging at first and at times is still adapting to the new environment. He has a strong passion for coding and reading and both have been a big part of his life. He codes and makes new games/animations and started learning Python, where he made small programs and learned new techniques. Reading is a passion and he reads every day. No matter how busy he always makes sure there is time to immerse in a good book. His favourite genres are adventure and fantasy. Reading reduces stress and transports him to a new world. He also plays the piano and enjoys learning new pieces and improving. His favourite subject is mathematics because it is interesting and fun to do so. Sometimes though, it gets really hard and really racks my brain! He is looking forward to learning, improving my skills, and exploring new opportunities.
