The Importance of Literature in Life | Priyanka Tripathi | TEDxIIT Patna

Literature remains a guiding force that shapes our emotions, perspectives, and identities in a world increasingly driven by technology and data. Literature is not just about stories; it is a mirror to society, a source of solace, and a means of resistance. Drawing from personal experiences and literary references, including Maya Angelou’s powerful poem Still I Rise, this talk explores how literature empowers individuals, fosters resilience, and provides a deeper understanding of the human experience.Through the lens of Veiled Veracity, we uncover how literature allows us to question accepted truths and discover hidden realities beneath the surface. It challenges us to look beyond what is presented and seek deeper meanings—whether in history, culture, or personal struggles. In doing so, literature becomes not just an art form but a powerful tool for introspection and transformation, helping us rise above adversities and connect with the world in meaningful ways. Priyanka Tripathi is an Associate Professor of English and former Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (India). She is also the Co-Executive Editor of the Journal of International Women’s Studies (published by Bridgewater State University).
