Crown Prince, Trump tour historic Diriyah
Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — US President Donald Trump joined Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on a walking tour of the historic At-Turaif district in Diriyah, the ancestral home of the Al-Saud family, on Tuesday. At this World Heritage Site, the two leaders viewed the development master plan set to transform the birthplace of the Saudi state into a global cultural and heritage hub.
Standing in front of the iconic Salwa Palace, they explored the notable landmarks such as the mudbrick palaces and alleyways of the centuries-old town, considered the cradle of Saudi history and a powerful symbol of national identity. Their visit came just two years ahead of the Kingdom’s celebration of its 300th anniversary.
The Crown Prince briefed Trump on the massive transformation underway in Diriyah, which aims to blend heritage preservation with cutting-edge urban development. Trump, who arrived earlier in Riyadh for his first official overseas visit of his second term, described the vision as “bold and inspiring.”
The tour highlighted Saudi Arabia’s broader cultural revival, which includes turning Diriyah into the world’s largest heritage and cultural city under a royal directive issued in 2017. Diriyah’s revival coincides with the Saudi-US Investment Forum and a new wave of economic and strategic partnerships between the two allies.
The visit concluded with both leaders receiving an update from Diriyah Company CEO Jerry Inzerillo, who shared plans for the city’s future and its role as a central pillar in the Vision 2030.
