Should You Need a License to Be a Parent? | STEPHANIE MARTIN-SINI | TEDxNTICAbujaYouth

In this bold and thought-provoking TEDx talk, Stephanie Martin-Sini, a passionate SS2 student from NTIC Abuja, challenges one of society’s biggest assumptions: that anyone can parent without preparation. Drawing from real stories, statistics, and personal reflection, she makes a powerful case for a "Parenting License"—not as a physical document, but as a symbol of readiness, responsibility, and love. With wisdom beyond her years, Stephanie urges us to rethink how we raise children, and how a little guidance could prevent a lot of harm. This talk is a heartfelt call to action for parents, educators, and leaders to prioritize intentional parenting—because the future deserves more than guesswork. Stephanie Martin-Sini, a bright and compassionate student in SS2B, is a young woman with a heartful of warmth and a mind brimming with ambition. Her family is her anchor, and she holds a special place in her heart for her younger brother. Her love for basketball is evident in her athleticism and her artistic side shines through her drawings and paintings. Although she might not consider herself through movement. Stephanie is also known for her out going personality and her ability to engage in lively conversations, often described as a ‘’yapper’’ by those who know her well. While Stephanie is still exploring her career path, she is driven by a strong desire to contribute to a better society. She has a deep love for young children, her gentle shining through in her interactions with them. This compassion, coupled with her diverse interests, is what moved her to stand before you all today and voice out her views on how to create a brighter future for children everywhere. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
