Finding Peace in Our Homes With AROMATouch | Sumiko Nobori | TEDxKatano
When she was ten, the speaker was inspired by her mother’s desire for “world peace” and dreamed of helping people abroad—until her father advised her to “start by helping people here in Japan.” She went on to study aromatherapy and lymphatic massage, treating more than ten thousand patients, yet realized she wasn’t addressing the root cause of their issues. Concluding that their problems stemmed from childhood memories and the subconscious mind, she began promoting “AromaTouch,” which uses high-purity essential oils.A pivotal example involved her father, who had lost motivation due to dementia. After she gently applied oils to his skin, he regained the will to walk—powerfully illustrating AromaTouch’s potential. AromaTouch also helps families restore mutual affection, as seen in the case of a woman who, burdened by her own childhood trauma, risked mistreating her child. Through caring touch on the back and feet, people convey love and strengthen bonds. Emphasizing that “world peace” starts with peace at home, the speaker now shares this technique globally to spread more love and peace among families.
She was drawn to natural therapies after experiencing childbirth with the care of a midwife in a maternity clinic. She then worked as an aromatherapist at an integrative medical clinic that used essential oils. Later, she became a licensed acupuncturist and established her own method by combining acupuncture with aromatherapy. Through her interactions with patients, she came to believe that everyone should know how to care for the state of “pre-illness” before disease takes hold. Motivated by this conviction, she founded the Japan Holistic Aroma Life Association, an organization that provides wellness education and human resource development, which has now grown to over 40,000 members. To train specialists in aroma-based health, she opened the Aroma Total Health Academy (ATHA). Currently, she dedicates herself to promoting wellness life advisors who utilize essential oils, and serves as a seminar and course instructor at locations throughout Japan.
