Silent No More: Voice of Resistance | Nadia Maharani Chaniago | TEDxUniversitas Andalas

When silence is not an option. Indonesia is at a turning point. Democracy is under threat, and the future of the nation hangs in the balance. But in times like these, silence is a choice we can’t afford. This session isn’t about fiery speeches—it’s about the quiet, unwavering resolve to stand up for what truly matters. It’s about students recognizing their role as the guardians of their nation’s future. Here, they’ll discover the power in their voices, not to shout, but to speak up for their country. To protect what is right. To ensure that silence is never mistaken for consent. In their voices lies the strength to reshape the future. Because standing up isn’t just an act—it’s a duty. Nadia Maharani is a strong advocate for social change, she actively participates in initiatives that amplify the voices of marginalized communities. Nadia's academic focus intertwines with her dedication to fostering empowerment through literature, as she believes that stories and words can be powerful agents of transformation in society. Nadia has been involved in several community-driven projects, including the establishment of literacy programs in Solok and collaborative efforts to promote education and awareness through storytelling. Her work speaks to her commitment to use her voice to resist injustices and inspire others to do the same. As she continues to pursue her studies, Nadia remains deeply engaged in creating spaces where those who have been silenced can share their experiences and call for the changes they wish to see. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
