Larkin Bohn is a Science Communicator onboard small and large maritime vessels who believes it’s never too late to change your life. After more than a decade at sea, where she got licensed as both a Mate and a Captain, she started a brand new career at the age of 43 combining her passion for science, videography, and women empowerment with her love for being at sea.Now she works with organizations like the National Science Foundation to create content to bridge the gap between the science world and the general public, and her equal rights efforts have been recognized by the Women Offshore Foundation where she gave a talk for their annual conference. Today, Larkin is now a speaker who helps leaders make their next big life change without losing their identity.After transitioning from spirited theater major to the rigid world of the military to being the first and only woman sailor on some of her ships, Larkin thought the major changes in her life had already happened but little did she know, at age 43, the biggest reinvention was still to come. She had already begun with her work as a Science Communicator onboard various small and large maritime vessels, creating fun, interactive content of the women she is working with at sea, both as sailors and scientists. Twelve years at sea have afforded her countless opportunities to connect with incredible women from around the globe. A few years ago, shifted her life even more. She wants to inspire and unify women of all ages, backgrounds, religions and walks of life, creating a snowball effect generation after generation. Combining her passion for women empowerment, videography, and being at sea has been a dream come true and she knows this is just the beginning! La société a érigé la norme comme un principe fondamental. L’inflation normative ne touche pas seulement les fruits et légumes qui doivent respecter des canons de beauté. Elle concerne aussi les cerveaux humains : ceux-ci sont censés fonctionner selon certaines modalités. En dehors de ce cadre se trouvent les personnes neurodivergentes : elles ont un fonctionnement discordant de la majorité. De discordant à déficient, voire dangereux, il n’y a qu’un pas. Un pas que nous pouvons choisir de ne pas franchir, en commençant par penser autrement aux gens qui pensent différemment, car la variété des cerveaux est aussi vitale pour la prospérité de l’humanité que la biodiversité est essentielle pour la pérennité de la planète. À quoi ressemblerait un monde où nous accueillerions la neurodivergence, non pas comme une déficience, mais comme une chance pour l’évolution de la société ? Anne-Valérie Rocourt accompagne les femmes entrepreneures atypiques qui désirent développer leur business hors des normes.
