How does cultural and familial ideology affect children? | Hannah Park | TEDxKelowna Youth
Hannah shares how cultural and familial values shape children’s worldviews from an early age. Drawing on personal experiences, she illustrates how the beliefs we inherit can last a lifetime, influencing the way we perceive the world and interact with others. My name is Hannah Park, and I am currently a ninth-grade student attending school in British Columbia, Canada. I originally grew up in Yellowknife and moved to Kelowna in 2022. Although I’m considered a newcomer to this community, I embrace new opportunities and challenges whenever I can. In my spare time, I’m involved as a Royal Canadian Sea Cadet and am working towards earning my qualifications to become a potential lifeguard. This year, my goals are to develop my leadership skills and explore various ways to succeed academically as I prepare for tenth grade. In my TED Talk, I will share my personal perspective on how cultural and familial values have the ability to shape a child’s worldview, further demonstrating how these early influences can last a lifetime. - 7:24Visions of the End Times | Ankit Biswas | TEDxYouth@NCSSMThe end times dominate our culture, visions of apocalyptic worlds that consume our media cycle upon the onset of the most recent catastrophe–whether it be the newest drastic effect of climate change or the newest global conflict. However, this obsession with the end times is not only unhealthy but actively detrimental to our progress towards fixing these challenges. Ever since building his first bottle rocket in third grade, Ankit has been a highly dedicated student researcher and education advocate. Aiming to help build and train the next generation of thinkers, scientists, and innovators through outreach and advocacy, he works to bring tutoring and mentorship to under-funded communities via his organization the Youth Research Initiative, which has reached 52k+ people around the world. As a youth researcher, he explores the furthest frontiers of the observable universe–receiving notable accolades, including a Grand Prize at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the Davidson Fellow scholarship, and being a Broadcom MASTERS Top Award winner. Both his scientific tutelage and research work towards his central goal–to help explore the terra incognita beyond the world’s map of knowledge.
