- 15:11Breaking Barriers: Journey from Streets to Stardom | Justin Bibis | TEDxISL Pine YouthJustin Bibis, the viral music duo, redefine the journey of success through their raw talent and relentless determination. Rising to fame with their rendition of Justin Bieber’s Baby, they became a symbol of Western musical inspiration in Pakistan. Their struggles reflect deep-rooted societal issues—early marriages, lack of education for girls, and the struggles of Pakistani artists who receive little recognition. Their story intertwines with Coke Studio’s evolution, culminating in a powerful Peechay Hutt performance. Integrating classical music into modern genres, they defied norms, sang for international films, and embraced their Rajasthani heritage. They end with Lambi Judai leaving a legacy of resilience and artistry The two sisters grew up without formal education, money, and opportunities. The only thing they did have was music. Their rhythmic voices echoing off the peeling paint on the exposed cement walls became their source of joy and happiness in an otherwise hopeless situation. They shared their love of music with the world in 2013 when their cover of Justin Bieber’s "Baby" went viral, changing their lives forever. Their successive releases, like “Peechay Hut”, later featured on Marvel’s Ms. Marvel as well, and “Next11 Anthem”, became fan favorites. The Bibis have also contributed to numerous OSTs and TVCs. The Justin Bibis are a testament to how music can serve as a source of joy in the darkest of times and, given the proper platform, can spread that love to a large audience. The Justin Bibis continue to inspire, reminding us that hope can be found even in the darkest of places with something as small as a musical note. - 13:51Beyond the Mold: Rethinking Education and Gender Norms | Amna Niazi | TEDxISL Pine YouthAmna Niazi, an ambitious advocate for education reform and gender equality, is redefining success beyond societal norms. Growing up in a culture where rigid traditions often dictate a woman’s future, she found her escape in education, research, and the culinary arts. She argues that rigid curricula stifle creativity and force students into predefined molds of success, limiting individual potential. Amna also believes that early marriages and limited opportunities suppress talent, denying women the chance to explore their passions. Through her work, she challenges deep-rooted expectations, urging a shift toward a system that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and personal growth. Growing up in the 1980s as the third daughter of a conservative Pathan household meant that Amina Niazi experienced limited autonomy. With every breath, she felt suffocated, noticing the sighs and disgust of those around her because she was a girl and not a boy. However, an opportunity knocked down her barred door in the form of college. Here, she learned to raise her voice against prejudice through competitive debate competitions. Despite this, she was unable to get rid of her traumatic past which followed her like a shadow at all times. The turning point for her came while vacationing in the streets of Italy, where taking a cooking class became the key to the puzzle she had struggled with her whole life. She fell in love with cooking and, through it, with herself. Today, she explores the hidden cuisines of Pakistan. Through her platform, she knocks at the barred doors and is the aroma of the freshly baked bread guiding others to love themselves. - 11:59Beyond Colonial Shadows: Rediscovering Our Cultural Heritage | Asad Raza | TEDxISL Pine YouthAsad explores Pakistan’s national identity crisis, critically analyzing the country’s detachment from its cultural roots. He argues that colonial history has embedded a foreign lens through which Pakistanis view their language, culture, and history. He emphasizes the erasure of indigenous traditions and the rise of an inferiority complex, particularly through the dominance of English. Asad highlights the extinction of cultures, like the Mohana tribe, as a result of this cultural neglect. His talk challenges the widespread acceptance of foreign influences and calls for a return to authentic cultural identities, advocating for the preservation of Pakistan’s rich heritage. Presenting our Student Speaker and the Head Boy for ISL Pine Avenue, Asad Raza. Mined from the rich earth of Kallar Kahar, traversing the vibrant landscape of the country, and experiencing the diversity of Pakistan, Asad has become one of the gems that have taken on the responsibility to carry the torch of the past into the future. Having fluency in six languages through his indulgence in the stories and tales birthed from this land sparked his deep passion and advocacy for the revival of the indigenous languages of Pakistan. “Without our connection to our languages we are lost, having abandoned our only guide.” Inspired by literary giants, he too has picked up the pen with an ambitious project to publish a collection of his poetry in six languages. His activism has also seeped into his school life, in his relentless campaigns for the introduction of a Punjabi section in the school library alongside his awareness campaigns centred around the revival of indigenous languages. - 12:35The Freedom of Waking Up in a Forest | Zihan Xu | TEDxSHBS YouthZihan shares her unconventional journey from a strict academic background to becoming a musical theater actress, reflecting on her experiences and personal growth. Despite excelling in school through fear and anxiety, her life took a dramatic turn when she shifted from chemistry to performing arts. In her first musical theater experience, she faced immense challenges as a "bad student," struggling with her director's harsh critiques and her own rigid, analytical approach to acting.A turning point came when a playwright advised Zihan to focus on her relationship with her co-actors rather than herself. Initially terrified, she eventually let go of control, leading to a transformative performance experience where she felt genuine emotion and connection on stage for the first time. This shift in focus from self-analysis to emotional engagement became a key metric for evaluating her performances.Zihan attributes her experience to the educational system, which heavily emphasizes rational thinking and often neglects emotional intelligence. She highlights the dangers of over-reliance on rationality, which can lead to "mental exhaustion" and a lack of connection with the world around us. Her own transition into the performing arts helped her reconnect with deeper emotional layers of life, offering her a sense of balance and mental well-being.In closing, Zihan emphasizes the importance of nurturing emotional awareness and connections with the world to lead a mentally healthy life, encouraging others to find their paths to balance and personal growth. Ms. Zihan Xu is currently a musical actress and singer in China. Prior to becoming an artist, her major was Chemistry and MSE (Material Science and Engineering). After graduation, she has completed 100 commercial musical shows, and her followers on the web are now over 300k.
