Stop Doing the Right Things, Wrong | Paul Anastas | TEDxYale

We do amazing things that are virtually scientific miracles, yet even with the most astounding technologies, we are doing them horribly wrong. We make life saving drugs – but we too often do it by generating 100-times as much toxic waste. We purify our water with lethal chemicals and raise our food in ways that contaminate our soil. In short, we do the “right things, wrong.” Does it have to be this way? Of course not. There’s a world-wide community of scientists who have invented countless innovations to do the right things right. Paul Anastas is known as “The Father of Green Chemistry” and spends his time as a professor at Yale University focused on reinventing the material and energy basis of our society and economy so that it is beneficial for people, prosperity, and the planet. He has co-founded successful companies, published hundreds of scientific papers and patents, served in four U.S. Presidential Administrations, and received numerous international awards for his work. He refers to himself as, “A simple country chemist.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
