- 21:03How a social scientist maps cultural shifts | Christian Welzel | TEDxInnsbruckPeople's moral values are in flux everywhere in the world. And while the media describe this process mostly negatively as an increase in ideological polarization, systematic data show instead a positive trend that is giving rise to emancipative values in most places of the globe. Christian Welzel is a renowned social scientist deeply invested in understanding the evolution of human values. His work revolves around how societies progressively move toward more liberal and inclusive moral perspectives.Christian emphasizes the importance of peaceful coexistence amidst cultural differences. He believes that the key to a functioning democracy lies in liberal tolerance—acknowledging and respecting differing values without viewing them as sources of conflict. Rather than striving for cultural homogeneity, he advocates for open communication and the ability to agree to disagree. This is the essence of democracy, allowing societies to navigate polarization through understanding and dialogue.Christian envisions a perfect world not as a destination, but as an ongoing process of improvement. His hope is to inspire others to recognize this long-term moral evolution and to actively engage in shaping a world that values inclusivity, tolerance, and mutual respect. - 12:10Wenn der große Mut die kleine Angst besiegt | Nora Dejaco | TEDxBolzanoNora Dejaco takes the audience on a journey of reflection—on their own path, the choices they have made, and the patterns imposed by society. A journey that highlights the importance of key skills such as creativity, empathy, and clarity about one's values—essential tools for achieving meaningful goals and taking action. A concrete example of this approach is Thrive+, an association dedicated to gender equality and equal opportunities started by Nora in 2023, which now already has more then 100 active members in 3 countries, welcomed more than 800 participants at its Kick Off festival in 2023 and creates projects, services, events and more as an active contribution to societal transformation.
