A Rock Dentist Saves the World | KEIJI KASAI | TEDxKatano
People often view the dream of becoming a rock musician as unrealistic, but according to the speaker, if you live without losing your “rock spirit,” a dream can be realized in various ways. In his youth, he faced setbacks such as repeating a college year and losing his job, yet by holding fast to four principles—open-mindedness, positive thinking, curiosity, and passion—he ultimately succeeded as a dentist. A major source of support was his wife, whom he met in a college music club and who told him he would achieve great things someday. He aspires to live his ideal “rock lifestyle”—one that influences others, refines one’s craft, and turns even failures into stepping stones toward new stages. In the past, he lacked genuine passion when working merely for money, but today, as a dentist, business owner, and TED speaker, he inspires people with the powerful message that if you have your own philosophy and push beyond your limits, nothing is impossible. Believing firmly that anyone can achieve their dreams by continually embracing the “rock spirit,” he encourages us to keep moving forward with a heart full of rock and roll. In 2002, under the concept of “Creating a dental clinic that offers an unprecedented sense of inspiration,” he established the Medical Corporation Ohki-kai Ohki Dental Clinic in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture. Currently operating large-scale dental clinics in both Suzuka and Yokkaichi, he leads a team of multiple dentists — each with specialized expertise, including himself — to provide high-quality dental care.Together with a staff of 75, the clinic practices team-based medicine, serving up to 300 patients daily. Treatments range from insurance-based services to advanced implant procedures, orthodontics, esthetic prosthodontics, and preventive care. By incorporating the latest digital technologies, the clinic realizes dental care that balances both aesthetics and functionality.
