How Fashion Can Unite Different Cultures | Ousmane Diaw | TEDxTUM

What happens when the dream of becoming a football player transforms into a mission to connect people through fashion? Meet Roubs, a designer whose incredible journey began with sewing clothes in Dakar, Senegal, and has led him to showcase his creations at international fashion weeks. In his inspiring talk, Roubs shares how he navigated life’s challenges—crossing continents, experiencing life as a refugee, and overcoming cultural barriers—which all shaped his distinctive style that marries African fabrics with European designs. Through his work in fashion, workshops, and art projects, he fosters connections and mutual understanding across cultures, showing that our differences can indeed be our greatest strength. From the vibrant streets of Dakar to the fashion capitals of Europe, Ousmane’s journey is all about perseverance and innovation. Growing up in a family of tailors, Ousmane learned to sew at 11 and began blending African fabrics with European cuts. Now, as the visionary behind Roubs Style, his designs light up runways in Milan, Berlin, and beyond. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
