John Rucynski, an author and associate professor in Japan, talks about how foreigners could feel at home in Japan.日本で暮らす外国人が、どうすれば「ここが自分の居場所だ」と感じられるようになるのか、そのヒントとは。 John Rucynski has been working as an English language teacher at the university level in Japan for the past 20 years. His main research passion is exploring the role of humor in foreign language acquisition and intercultural communicative competence. He has published widely about this topic and also given presentations at teaching conferences from New Zealand to Nepal. As a long-term resident of Japan, his other passion is serving as a bridge between Japan and the world. To this end, he has co-authored several English language textbooks focused on Japanese culture, regularly contributes articles to the website All About Japan, and recently edited A Passion for Japan: A Collection of Personal Narratives.日本の大学で20年以上にわたり英語講師として教鞭を執る。主な研究テーマは、外国語の習得と異文化間コミュニケーション能力におけるユーモアの役割の探求。研究分野で多くの著書を出版し、これまでニュージーランドからネパールまで、さまざまな国で講演を行ってきた。長年の日本滞在経験を生かし、日本と世界をつなぐ活動にも注力。日本文化を紹介する英語教材の共同出版に加え、ウェブサイト「All About Japan」にも寄稿している。2022年には『A Passion for Japan: A Collection of Personal Narratives』を出版した。 This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
