The Nature of Self-Mastery | Zachary Frisch | TEDxProvo

Zach Frisch shares his transformative journey of falling in love with the Utah mountains after moving from Arizona for college. What began as a personal craving to explore and connect with the natural world became an all-consuming passion, leading him to spend 750 hours trail running in 2024 and achieve the staggering goal of climbing 1 million feet of vertical gain. Zach reflects on how this goal taught him that the true value lies not in external rewards, but in the process itself: the daily consistency, the unexpected connections, and the personal growth along the way. Ultimately, Zach urges listeners to stop waiting for the “perfect” time and instead start pursuing their passions now, emphasizing that fulfillment is found not in the final result, but in who we become through the journey. Zach Frisch is a Utah-based trail runner, outdoor enthusiast, and community builder known for his ambitious 2024 goal of climbing one million vertical feet, equivalent to summiting Mount Everest 34 times. He used this challenge to deepen his connection with nature and foster community through shared outdoor experiences. Zach shares his journey and passion for the outdoors on Instagram as @trailswithzach, where he encourages others to embrace consistency and find joy in the process of pursuing their passions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
