- 8:23Finding Peace in Our Homes With AROMATouch | Sumiko Nobori | TEDxKatanoWhen she was ten, the speaker was inspired by her mother’s desire for “world peace” and dreamed of helping people abroad—until her father advised her to “start by helping people here in Japan.” She went on to study aromatherapy and lymphatic massage, treating more than ten thousand patients, yet realized she wasn’t addressing the root cause of their issues. Concluding that their problems stemmed from childhood memories and the subconscious mind, she began promoting “AromaTouch,” which uses high-purity essential oils.A pivotal example involved her father, who had lost motivation due to dementia. After she gently applied oils to his skin, he regained the will to walk—powerfully illustrating AromaTouch’s potential. AromaTouch also helps families restore mutual affection, as seen in the case of a woman who, burdened by her own childhood trauma, risked mistreating her child. Through caring touch on the back and feet, people convey love and strengthen bonds. Emphasizing that “world peace” starts with peace at home, the speaker now shares this technique globally to spread more love and peace among families. She was drawn to natural therapies after experiencing childbirth with the care of a midwife in a maternity clinic. She then worked as an aromatherapist at an integrative medical clinic that used essential oils. Later, she became a licensed acupuncturist and established her own method by combining acupuncture with aromatherapy. Through her interactions with patients, she came to believe that everyone should know how to care for the state of “pre-illness” before disease takes hold. Motivated by this conviction, she founded the Japan Holistic Aroma Life Association, an organization that provides wellness education and human resource development, which has now grown to over 40,000 members. To train specialists in aroma-based health, she opened the Aroma Total Health Academy (ATHA). Currently, she dedicates herself to promoting wellness life advisors who utilize essential oils, and serves as a seminar and course instructor at locations throughout Japan. - 9:17Intergenerational Cultural Exchange for Enhancing Peace and Happiness | RURIKO SAKURABA | TEDxKatanoAt the age of 66, the speaker advocates a concept called “MANMARU-SUN,” sharing her secrets to living a vibrant, smiling life. “MANMARU,” meaning a sphere, is combined with “SUN,” representing the light that illuminates everything. This idea is nurtured by “knowing,” “preserving,” and “connecting” the culture and wisdom inherited from our ancestors. For many years, she has worked as a guide in Miyazaki—a land mentioned in Japan’s ancient texts—treating people with gratitude and kindness, and she now aspires to spread the spirit of “MANMARU-SUN” worldwide. As an example, she cites the process of weaving cloth for kimonos, emphasizing the importance of learning ancestral techniques, preserving them in the present, and passing them on to the future. She also explains that by gently sharing the rich imagery of round objects—such as the earth, the moon, or soap bubbles—hearts connect, and a brighter, happier world emerges. “MANMARU-SUN” is not limited to Japanese culture; it is a universal concept that applies to all countries and regions. She concludes by saying that everyone can create a life full of smiles and vitality by carrying their own cultural heritage forward into the future. As a Japanese spirit producer based in Tokyo, she has been sharing the heart of Japan with people both in Japan and around the world. She has been guiding tours of Japanese mythology for about 30 years, allowing participants to not only learn the stories but also experience them. In December 2024, she and two companions born in 1958 founded a company, Ruriko Co., Ltd. Its activities are centered around the "Konohana Club," a Japanese cultural exchange group focusing on three themes: knowing about the culture and customs handed down in Japan from ancient times, how to preserve them, connecting them on to future. Their activities are based on a concept called "MANMARU-SUN," which represents a sphere with a warm, gentle nurtured by the richness through the spirit of "helping each other" and "thanking each other." she is committed to speak at events worldwide, and she and her co-founders aim to build "MAN-MARU-SUN" villages around the globe together. - 11:48Live aligned with Your Philosophy | Hiro Abe | TEDxKatanoThe speaker notes that many people, despite outward success, still feel an inner sense of emptiness. He underscores the importance of living in alignment with one’s personal “philosophy” as the key to a truly fulfilling life. According to him, while children are free from concern over others’ opinions, adults learn to bury their genuine feelings. He himself had a turning point at age 15, spurred by a tutor’s words; now, as a dentist treating numerous patients each year, he implements three principles to live without regrets. Through a musical performance, he sings of “turning failures into fuel,” “freeing emotions,” and “trusting in your own potential,” explaining that, by recovering the confidence of childhood and believing in the future, negative feelings prove only temporary. In closing, he exhorts listeners to transform failure into guidance for a life where they shine, asserting that staying true to one’s philosophy—unfazed by external voices—is the path to genuine happiness. After graduating from Tokyo Dental College, he completed training at various institutions including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Zurich, the University of Michigan, and UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), thereby honing his knowledge and skills at the forefront of dental medicine. Between clinical work, he also pursued graduate research and was awarded a doctoral degree (PhD).In Japan, he served as the director or chief at multiple dental clinics, and in 2012, opened his own dental clinic. Today, while working as chairman and practicing daily clinical dentistry, he continually strives to acquire the latest medical knowledge and scientific insights. Furthermore, he carries out humanitarian assistance activities in the Dominican Republic for the purpose of giving back through implant treatment, providing medical care to local residents and training dentists from around the world.
