NOTE FROM TED: We've flagged this talk because it falls outside the content guidelines TED gives TEDx organizers. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdfHave you ever been called to create something? This is the story of an incredible collaboration between a highly-determined mother, an amazing non-profit, and a devoted professional that not only resulted in the creation of a number of inclusive and accepting spaces in the community, but in a paradigm shift as to how people with disabilities are perceived in society. For additional information, check out:

Pillarsoflightandlove.org Maureen Stanko is a musician, a fitness instructor, and a Reading Specialist in the Methacton School District in Montgomery County, PA. She is also a wife and the mother of two sons in their 20's. Her son, Nicholas, who is 22, has autism. The lack of services available for adults with disabilities is what motivated Maureen to start the So Much to Give Program, which resulted in the opening of the So Much to Give Inclusive Cafe' and the So Much to Give Inspiration Studio near Skippack, PA in the suburbs of Philadelphia.Tyler Kammerle received his B.S. in Education from West Chester University. After teaching special education in a local school district, he went on to direct a program geared towards providing job training and employment opportunities for teens and adults with disabilities. These experiences helped him to develop an understanding of both the school system and the adult services system and contributed to the successful rollout of his vision to open an inclusive cafe' to promote acceptance and inclusion in the community. - 13:54Innovation for Precision Vaccines | Ofer Levy | TEDxBostonVaccines are the most effective biomedical innovation saving countless lives yet face growing skepticism. Novel technologies, including systems biology, adjuvants that boost vaccine responses, and cell culture systems that model individual vaccine responses outside the body, promise to make vaccines even better, enhancing safety and efficacy in vulnerable populations. Dr. Ofer Levy was born to and raised by the artist Benjamin Levy and music composer Hannah Levy in New York City, where he graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. After graduating from Yale College (B.S., Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry), Dr. Levy entered the Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) Training Program at New York University School of Medicine. There he earned his PhD under the mentorship of Drs. Peter Elsbach and Jerrold Weiss, characterizing neutrophil-derived antimicrobial proteins and peptides. Inspired by his wife Sharon’s example, he chose Pediatrics and completed both residency and fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is currently Professor at Harvard Medical School as well as principal investigator, staff physician in Infectious Diseases and the Director of the Precisions Vaccine Program in the Department of Pediatrics, Boston Children’s Hospital. The Precision Vaccines Program is an academic program that fosters international collaboration between academia, government, and industry for development of vaccine formulations optimized to protect vulnerable populations. Dr. Levy’s laboratory is focused on modeling vaccine-induced human immune responses in vitro using a variety of platforms including three-dimensional microphysiologic systems as well as global molecular (“OMIC”) approaches to accelerate and de-risk development of vaccines optimized for populations with distinct immune responses, including those at the extremes of age who suffer the most infections. He currently leads or co-leads multiple NIH/NIAID-supported studies, including (a) Adjuvant Discovery and Development Program contracts, leveraging high throughput screening to discover, characterize, and formulate novel small molecule adjuvants to enhance vaccine responses of vulnerable populations such as infants and older adults and (b) systems biology projects via the Human Immunology Project Consortium and the Immune Development in Early Life (IDEAL) program to define biomarkers of vaccine responsiveness, respiratory infection and asthma. - 4:28How IoT Can Boost Renewable Energy? | Ahmed Ouesleti | TEDxSouthMediterraneanUniversityThe transition to renewable energy is essential for a sustainable future, but the variability of solar and wind power presents major challenges to grid stability and efficiency. The Internet of Things (IoT) offers a powerful solution by enabling real-time monitoring, automation, and optimization of energy systems. In this talk, Ahmed Ouesleti explores how IoT is transforming renewable energy, with a focus on applications in Tunisia and beyond. He will discuss how IoT-powered smart grids, predictive analytics, and automated microgrids can make clean energy more reliable, cost-effective, and accessible. Ahmed Ouesleti is a dynamic Business Development & Sales Manager with a strong track record in the automotive and renewable energy sectors. With expertise in sales strategy, market expansion, and strategic partnerships, he has played a key role in driving growth at Bako Motors and leading innovative projects in sustainable mobility. His experience spans business development, marketing, and customer experience, positioning him as a key player in scaling operations and delivering impactful solutions in emerging markets. - 10:51Rwanda 1994: Chaos and Genocide Denialism | Mika Goldman Shayman | TEDxAISG YouthWhile there is often an association of genocide with order, that false perception has been used to promote violence and a lack of international accountability. Through a deep dive into the 1994 Rwandan genocide, this talk explores the ways a false portrayal of the genocide as "chaos" allowed it to continue unstopped. Mika Goldman Shayman is an 18 years old AISG alumni, who currently volunteers at the school. In her free time, she likes pursuing "grandma activities", including baking, knitting, sighing dramatically, and reading as many books as humanly possible. - 10:15Small Seeds, Big Growth: Cultivating Order in Chaos | Amanda Wei | TEDxAISG YouthChaos is inevitable-- but what if it's also an opportunity? This talk explores how embracing entropy, rather than fighting it, can transform the way we navigate life's messiest moments. You’ll discover how small, intentional habits can grow into powerful tools for thriving in uncertainty as well as how these small seeds can grow into big trees. Amanda Wei is a 13 year old 7th grader at AISG. She was born in Hong Kong and currently lives in Guangzhou. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends, playing sports, discovering new hobbies, and watching the sunset. - 7:26How to handle chaos in your life | Zak Gendin | TEDxAISG YouthChaos is something we see every day and everywhere, however we can find order in this chaos by finding consistency and predictability. Only by noticing entropy in our lives, by finding a balance between embracing and ignoring chaos, can we begin to find success, satisfaction, and happiness. Zak Gendin is a tenth grade student from the U.S. and has lived in seven countries. He participates in cross country, table tennis, and badminton. Outside of school, Zak enjoys climbing and spending time in nature. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 8:58Neurodivergence: building order amidst chaos | Dominika Kurek | TEDxAISG YouthBeing neurodivergent can feel like an endless storm of chaos; between juggling a million thoughts at once, being overstimulated, and feeling stuck, that can make us desperate to make rules or structure to create some order in our minds and lives. This talk explores that dissonance—those conflicting yet coexisting aspects of chaos and stability—in order to understand our neurodiverse experiences and needs better, in hopes of finding a balance that works uniquely for each of us. Dominika Kurek, originally from Poland, is a current senior at AISG, and has spent the past decade in Guangzhou. Her hobbies include reading, making to-do lists, and staying home, whenever possible This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
