How to prevent the robot apocalypse | Oluwami (Wami) Dosunmu-Ogunbi | TEDxDetroit

Imagine a world where robots, once created to serve humanity, have turned against us—not out of malice, but because of the biases we unknowingly built into them. It sounds like science fiction, but the reality is that we are already on the path to such a world. How do we change course? The answer is surprisingly simple. "Oluwami ""Wami"" Dosunmu-Ogunbi, PhD, is a trailblazer as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Robotics from the University of Michigan. Her research focus is in robot control and engineering education.Navigating academia as a person at the intersection of numerous identities, Wami faced many challenges, including being expelled from her first PhD program. However, with the unwavering support of mentors, she overcame systemic barriers and made history. Wami is committed to paving the way for future generations, demonstrating that while she may be the first, she certainly won't be the last! " This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
