- 10:21Life First - The "four powers" essential for living | Shibuki Maeda | TEDxKhargharWomenThis talk introduces essential strengths for living: “the power to give,” “the power to share,” “the power to believe,” and “the power of trust.” The speaker, who worked as an NGO staff member, learned these powers from people living with all their strength in disaster and conflict zones. Surviving under the most extreme conditions, where everything is in short supply, these individuals never ceased to show compassion, share their limited resources, offer prayers amid the fires of war and chaos, and smile at others. Deeply moved by their way of being, the speaker asserts that within these qualities lies the key to humanity’s true path toward peace. The four powers she learned there helped her once-struggling life to flourish and made her dream come true.In a modern society that often prioritizes economic efficiency, where human lives are sometimes reduced to mere numbers, this speech serves as a warm tribute to humanity, leading us to reaffirm the notion of “human dignity,” transcending borders, ethnicities, and religions. As a former NGO staff member, Shibuki Maeda had been deeply involved in international aid and emergency relief efforts within Japan, including disaster response. While documenting these efforts on film and sharing them with television networks and through delivering public lectures, she was awakened to the power of “visual media” that has more profound storytelling impact than words. Her photographs of children in war-torn Afghanistan deeply resonated with audiences, leading to invitations to speak across Japan to over 1,000 people. In 2010, she produced a documentary film capturing the testimonies of Japanese war survivors. Currently, she is preparing a sequel to this film and working on publishing an e-book. Her life’s work, dedicated to using visual media to connect people across borders, includes filming a documentary during a round-the-world voyage. She is the representative of Moon Camera Japan. Her media appearances include Mainichi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Iwate Nippo, OHK Broadcasting, RNC Nishi Nippon Radio, FM Takamatsu, and more. - 7:01Let's make “World Ami Day”! | Ami Nobuoka | TEDxKhargharWomenThis talk begins by exploring the meaning of the name "Ami," symbolizing love and friendship, and introduces the idea of "World Ami Day." This proposed global day invites children from all corners of the world to come together, transcending borders, religions, and cultural differences, to promote true peace. Through this initiative, children everywhere can say, “Let’s be friends!” and “Thank you for being my friend!”—nurturing friendship and an appreciation of diversity from an early age. By fostering these values, children can naturally move away from conflict and division. The speaker envisions that the establishment of "World Ami Day" will act as a powerful step toward creating a harmonious world, empowering children—the future stewards of our planet—to join hands in unity.I am currently a high school student at Brillantmont International School in Switzerland. Studying here has given me the unique opportunity to connect with students from all over the world and learn about the rich traditions and customs of their diverse cultures.Throughout my four years, I have actively participated in multiple Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, representing countries such as Senegal, Australia, and Indonesia. During these events, I focused on addressing critical issues related to social justice, environmental sustainability, and children's welfare, presenting solutions to some of the most pressing challenges faced by each nation. These experiences have inspired me to lead the MUN conference at my school in 2024, where I will take on the role of a leader and organizer.Beyond academics, I have volunteered in Thailand and Portugal, contributing to housing projects for underprivileged communities. Witnessing child homelessness firsthand was a deeply moving experience that reinforced my belief in the importance of creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive. I dream of a future where no child goes to bed hungry, and where every child's dreams have the chance to come true.I firmly believe that world peace is the foundation for realizing these dreams. If children around the globe can build friendships that transcend borders, color, religion, language, and all other divides, we can grow into a generation that rejects conflict and embraces unity. To promote this vision, I aspire to establish a "World Ami Day" — a global initiative encouraging children to connect, share, and foster lasting friendships across the world.Let us unite as friends today, so we can create a peaceful and harmonious tomorrow.
