Jordan police arrest assailant who stabbed Saudi citizen to death

AMMAN — A Saudi citizen was stabbed to death in the Jordanian governorate of Karak on Tuesday. Police arrested the assailant, who fled the scene after the attack, on Wednesday. During investigation, the assailant confessed to committing the crime following a dispute between them and a sharp tool the attacker used in the crime was seized.
The Saudi citizen, Zaben Al-Shammari, aged 48 years, hails from Rafha governorate in the Northern Borders Region. He recently arrived in Karak on a visit to Jordan. The Saudi Embassy in Jordan followed up on the circumstances of the incident and contacted the victim's family.
Col. Amer Al-Saratawi, spokesman of the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, said that the perpetrator of the crime fled the scene after stabbing the victim, and disappeared from sight. The Criminal Investigation Department and the Karak Police Directorate formed an investigation team to chase the assailant. The team determined the murderer's identity and location before arresting him.
The assailant confessed to carrying out the crime following disputes and the existence of a case with the victim and some others. The perpetrator was referred to the Public Prosecutor of the High Criminal Court for further legal proceedings, the spokesman added.
