Haram Presidency official: Never used backup electricity at Grand Mosque since 40 years

MAKKAH — Ghazi Al-Shahrani, CEO of the General Presidency for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, revealed that the Grand Mosque in Makkah has more than 11 sources of main and backup electricity supply, and there was never happened any urgency that necessitated the use of external backup stations throughout the past 40 years.
Attending a dialogue session titled “Sustainability and quality of facilities and services in the Two Holy Mosques” at the recently concluded Hajj Conference and Exhibition, Al-Shahrani underlined the importance of sustainability and quality of facilities and services in the Two Holy Mosques.
Al-Shahrani stressed that the Grand Mosque is unique from others as it is the largest facility in the world and the most active around the clock and year around, apart from the most visited place in the world. He explained that the authority is currently working with partners to adopt smart asset and facility management applications and high-tech sensors to raise the level of service provision and excellence. This is in addition to adopting the concept of comprehensive access to provide easy services for people with disabilities besides making available an integrated transportation system.
