1,706 people donate their organs to save others in 2024

RIYADH The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT) revealed that as many as 1,706 people donated their organs during the year in 2024, and this marks an increase of 4.9 percent compared to the previous year of 2023. These included 1,284 kidney transplants and 422 liver transplants.

According to a recent report published by SCOT, the number of people who expressed, through the Tawakkalna app, their wish to donate their organs after death reached 540,346. Last year, 393 organs were transplanted from deceased donors, and this shows an increase of 12.3 percent.

The report showed that 203 kidney transplants were performed from deceased donors, in addition to 101 liver transplants, 40 heart transplants, 34 lung transplants, 15 pancreas transplants, 67 cornea transplants, and transplant of 7 heart valves.

Nineteen people have benefited from the National Kidney Exchange Program among Families since the program's launch at the end of the third quarter of 2024. The same year also witnessed 152 air evacuation for transplant purposes.
